Hospital Auxiliary
“Volunteers don’t necessarily have the
time…...they just have the
heart.”
This anonymous quote is a fitting way to describe the work of our Auxiliary volunteers.
Our Auxiliary currently has over 50 members, who selflessly give of their time to help within the hospital and/or to assist with a variety of fundraising events. In 2022, we were so extremely proud to celebrate our 100th year of dedicated service to our hospital!
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our Auxiliary Members have not been able to volunteer regularly at AMGH and we greatly miss our connection with each other and with AMGH. Prior to the pandemic, we could be found throughout the hospital performing many services, including assisting in day surgery and with dialysis patients, helping with prenatal and diabetic clinics, working in the speech therapy department and providing seasonal tray favours for inpatients and treats for staff.
Unfortunately, our Gift Shop has had to close permanently. Currently, several of our members regularly volunteer by phoning patients to remind them of their upcoming appointments.
Despite the difficult circumstances, our ‘volunteers with heart’ continued to raise much needed funds for our Hospital during 2022. Our members generously donated money to purchase gift cards from local businesses to give to AMGH staff during Hospital Week We also funded five AMGH staff applicants with bursaries, as well as a graduating GDCI student. Very successful Mother’s Day Gift Card and Father’s Day Gift Card Raffles and a Hot Dog BBQ were held.
This fall, we were extremely proud to present AMGH with over $17,000 to be used to purchase much needed priority equipment for our hospital. Plans are being made for another fundraiser in 2022.
Our Auxiliary is always excited to welcome new members. We meet at the MacKay Centre (10 Nelson Street, Goderich, Ontario) on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 1:30pm (with exception of July, August & December).
