Overview:

Reporting to the CNE / Vice President, Clinical Services, the Manager, Emergency and Surgical Services is responsible for the daily coordination of department operations. Key responsibilities include staffing and scheduling; liaising with other departments to ensure patient access to timely treatment; operational budget and expenses management. Other key responsibilities include: fostering a cohesive team that works effectively with stakeholders both internal and external to AMGH; supporting professional development of employees; and promoting employees to work to their full scope of practice. The Manager understands and promotes the mission, vision and values, the strategic plan of the organization and the goals and objectives of the clinical services department. The Manager is a role model committed to excellence in leadership.

 

Qualifications:

  •  Bachelors of Nursing required
  •  Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  •  Health Management Diploma and/or degree an asset
 

Required Skills:

  • 5-7 years of current progressive, professional experience which includes management and technical aspects
  •       Emergency and OR Department experience/leadership preferred

 

Abilities:

  • Competent with various software programs including Meditech, Microsoft applications
  • with advanced understanding of functionality;
  • Demonstrated leadership/supervisory ability to manage daily operations; conducting regular staff meetings and providing opportunities for team building and problem solving
  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills, significant decision making abilities and effective conflict resolution skills in day-to-day management activities;
  • Ensures that all policies, procedures and standards related to assigned unit/service areas, are reviewed/revised as outlined by regulatory standards and that clinical policies are evidence-based.
  • Demonstrates initiative and effectiveness in leading and motivating staff and peers to
  • Achieve departmental and organizational goals;
  • Detail oriented and ability to manage projects; adhere to professional and accreditation standards
  • Displays technical and practical knowledge of essential job functions and position;
  • Excellent interpersonal / communication skills to motivate and communicate with staff;
  • Teach new processes and act as a resource; and work independently, solve problems, set and meet priorities, and identify opportunities
  • Ability to work outside of business hours, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to assume administrative on call responsibilities as assigned on rotational basis
