New Surgeon Joins Team At Alexandra Marine And General Hospital

We are extremely happy to announce the arrival of a new general surgeon, Dr. Tiffaney Kittmer, joining the surgical team at Alexandra Marine ad General Hospital (AMGH).

Dr. Kittmer will be working alongside Dr. Julie Moore and Dr. Monica Torres to provide a regional surgical service. We now have a strong anesthesia team of four providing epidural and anesthesia support to these surgeons and we are in a position to expand our service providing you with treatment here in your home community.

Why Dr. Kittmer chose surgery as her specialty:
I didn’t actually always know I wanted to become a doctor. As a child, I loved music, working with my hands and learning about anything and everything. When I graduated from high school, I went off to Queen’s University for a biology degree, but after my first year, I became fascinated with the human body and ended up in the Life Sciences program. After working in a cancer research lab during the summers of my undergrad, I craved something closer to the front lines of medicine and applied to medical school, which is where I developed a passion for surgery.  I completed both my medical degree and my general surgical residency at McMaster University, doing some extra training in diabetic ulcer care and C-sections in preparation for my arrival in Goderich. As a general surgeon, I enjoy the ability to diagnose and treat a wide range of problems in a definitive way. From an appendix to a gallbladder, to a hernia or a colon cancer, my job is never boring, as no day is ever the same.

“We were delighted to welcome Dr. Tiffaney Kittmer to our surgical team at AMGH this past July. She brings with her an abundance of enthusiasm and energy, and knowledge in all aspects of general surgery.” – Karen Davis, CEO

What she loves about Goderich:
Goderich is a beautiful town. The lake, the boardwalk, the trails, the Square, the shops and the dazzling sunsets all drew me here. But even more importantly, the people of Goderich are amazing. I was impressed by their resilience and caring. Never being much of a city person, I immediately felt at home here. I spent a month working at AMGH during my general surgical residency and I really loved the teamwork, the energy and the welcoming atmosphere at the hospital so I knew I wanted to come back once my residency was complete. I consider it such a great privilege to be a new member of the AMGH team. I love that the cafeteria ladies serve and deliver meals to patients in person, that there’s an employee from maintenance who whistles in the basement, that everyone knows you by name, that switchboard and health records always seems to know where everyone is, that our ER gets to patients quicker than city ERs can, that the nurses in the hospital put their hearts and souls into their work, that the dedicated family doctors not only care for their patients in clinic but also in the ER, the OR, labour and delivery and on the wards, and that the people of Goderich provide AMGH with such tremendous support. It’s truly a place where all kinds of individuals come together for the good of the community and I am so happy to be a part of that.

What she hopes for the future:
When I heard about AMGH’s need for more C-section providers, I got really excited about the hospital’s vision for obstetrical care and obtained additional C-section training in order to ensure that women in Goderich and the surrounding area would be able to safely deliver close to home. I am looking forward to many years of serving this community as a general surgeon. There is a palpable energy and spirit of innovation whenever the physicians and surgeons of AMGH meet, and I am excited to see what new horizons we can reach together.

From the staff at AMGH:
“Dr. Kittmer is an outstanding addition to our surgical team.  In addition to her expertise in general surgery,” said Dr. Julie Moore. “She also brings her proficiency in C-Section, allowing us to greatly increase the service we provide to our obstetric patients.”

“We were delighted to welcome Dr. Tiffaney Kittmer to our surgical team at AMGH this past July. She brings with her an abundance of enthusiasm and energy, and a breadth of expertise and knowledge in all aspects of general surgery,” said CEO Karen Davis.  “Team player that she is, Tiffaney also did a subspecialty in C-Section surgery to enhance the obstetrical services provided by our obstetrical team. She has become ‘one of us’ in a very short time and we are looking forward to our future together.”

“Dr. Kittmer has had an immediate positive impact on the health care in Huron County. Her level of commitment, skill, and manner would be an asset to any system,” said Dr. Dan Noel, chief of staff. “Beyond her accomplishments as a surgeon, she has emerged as a leader within our system.  It is wonderful to observe the confidence she has inspired in the various teams with which she has interacted.  We are lucky indeed to have recruited such a fine surgeon to Alexandra Marine and General Hospital.”

“A strong surgical service brings business to Goderich and the economic spin off is very welcome,” said Gwen Devereaux, business innovation and recruitment leader. “Businesses and people are attracted to a community that provides a great healthcare services so we welcome this wonderful news.
