The AMGH Dialysis Unit opened May 23, 2001 as a satellite of the London Health Sciences Centre Renal Program. We have 6 stations that accommodate 12 patients per day in 2 shifts. As of June 2004, we are open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for hemodialysis treatments ranging from 2 hours to 4 hours in length, depending on the individual client condition.

The Dialysis unit is supported by the Nephrology staff of LHSC through the Baseline Road Regional Dialysis Centre. A nephrologist and nurse practitioner visit on site every 4 to 5 weeks for a face to face patient assessment and adjustment of medications or dialysis treatment based on patient and drug/blood work review. Between visits, weekly Telemedicine conference/patient care rounds are held with the team at Baseline Road in London.
The satellite dialysis unit is in place to serve the chronic stable outpatient suffering from renal failure, requiring haemodialysis. If a patient’s condition deteriorates, the Emergency physician at AMGH is available to assist under phone direction from an LHSC nephrologist if needed. If the patient cannot be dialyzed safely, then he/she is returned to the original home in centre unit until conditions improve.
