The Speech/Language Pathology Department provides a full range of assessment, diagnosis, treatment, education, counselling and follow-up for all types of communication and swallowing disorders for adult inpatients and adult and pre-school outpatients (0 to 5 years of age).
Patients are referred to other disciplines (ie. Social work; audiology; Ear, nose and throat; etc.) as required. Team meetings that include nursing, physiotherapy, speech/language pathology, discharge planning, nutrition and staff from the CCAC are held every week to facilitate the multidisciplinary team approach for inpatients.
Services are provided to inpatients and outpatients Monday to Friday. Speech/language services are also provided at the Goderich Municipal Day Care Centre three mornings a week.
A “Communication Disorders Assistant” (C.D.A.) is also available 2 days a week, for pre-school treatment sessions, funded through “Small Talk” (The pre-school speech and language Initiative)
