Alexandra Marine and General Hospital is committed to providing our patients with the best possible quality care. Patient and staff safety is a priority at Alexandra Marine and General Hospital and every effort is made to prevent spread of infections and safety for patients and staff.
Strict infection control protocols are in place throughout our facility. Alexandra Marine and General Hospital works closely with Huron County Public Health to ensure our service delivery is as comprehensive as possible, to minimize the number of patients who develop infection and to reduce the possibility of transmission.
Of particular importance is the control of antibiotic-resistant bacteria such as C. difficile, VRE and MRSA. These bacteria are of concern to health care providers as they are resistant to a large number of antibiotics commonly used to treat infections.
To prevent and control the spread of infections, Alexandra Marine and General Hospital does the following:
-
have increased awareness to test suspected patients with diarrhea for C. difficile toxin;
-
place confirmed MRSA, VRE, and C. difficile toxin positive patients in single rooms or co-hort them and use Contact Precautions
-
provide ongoing education for staff, physicians and volunteers regarding precautions
-
provide enhanced cleaning of patient rooms and areas where MRSA, VRE, and C. difficile might be present
-
educate patients, families and visitors about proper hand washing.
Our on-site Occupational Health and Safety Services promotes and supports occupational health, safety and wellness for Alexandra Marine and General staff. Services provided by Occupational Health and Safety include:
