STRATEGIC PLAN 2007

 

 

 

1.               EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

 

 

The Alexandra Marine and General Hospital (the “Hospital”) is committed to providing quality health care services to the people it serves. To that end, the Hospital has undertaken a strategic planning exercise. This planning process involved extensive consultation with internal and external stakeholders through Focus Group discussions.

 

The ten key issues that surfaced from these consultations are: Service Accessibility, Recruitment and Retention of Professional Human Resources, Space, Patient Safety, Positive Work Life, Funding Pressures, Information Technology, Communication, Accreditation and Diagnostic Imaging.

 

As a result of the Strategic Planning Process, the Hospital's Goals and Objectives for 2007- 2008 are:

 

1.   To provide a comprehensive array of clinical services to meet the healthcare needs of the community by implementing the recommendations in the JPPC’sCore Service Role of Hospitals in Ontario Report

1.1 Review complement of specialist and outpatient services.

1.2 To improve accessibility to health care services.

 

 

2.   To have a full complement of health care professionals to fulfill Mission

2.1            Continue to develop AMGH as a teaching site

2.2            Recruit appropriate staff to meet our current and future needs

2.3            Retain our current health care staff

 

   

3.    To identify the physical plant requirements essential for carrying out AMGH’s Missionand realizing its Vision.

3.1       To identify space requirements for present and futures services

 

 

4.     To promote an environment of safety

4.1            Promote a culture of safety within AMGH

4.2            Improve the effectiveness and coordination of communication among care/service providers and with the recipients of care/service across the continuum

4.3            Ensure the safe use of high risk medications

4.4            Create a worklife and physical environment that supports the safe delivery of care/service

4.5            Reduce the risk of health service organizational- acquired infections and their impact across the continuum of care/service

 

 

5.     To promote a healthy and positive quality of work life for our hospital family       

5.1            Develop and foster positive teamwork environment

5.2            Appropriate workload for staff

5.3            To ensure staff is well equipped, supported and motivated

5.4            Foster wellness

5.5            Stress management

5.6            Review middle management structure

5.7            Enhance staff morale

5.8            Improve staff appreciation

 

 

6.     To remain fiscally responsible

6.1            Improve financial decision-making

6.2            Improve utilization of resources

6.3            Maximize opportunity for revenue generation

 

 

7.     To position AMGH to meet current and future IT needs to facilitate effective work processes and exchange of information

7.1            Fully integrated, user friendly, fully supported, hospital information system (HIS)

7.2            Access to data as needed

7.3            Ensure up-to-date IT infrastructure

7.4            Integrated and complete health record

7.5            Seamless linkage to Maitland Valley Medical Centre

7.6            Responsive Help Desk (HIS) service provider

7.7            All staff using the electronic record

7.8            Content Management System implemented

 

 

8.     To develop a communication plan.

8.1            Enhance information flow to community

8.2            Better inform patients

8.3            Enhanced internal communications

9.     To achieve the highest Accreditation award in 2007 and beyond.

9.1            Demonstrate compliance to CCHSA standards

 

 

10.  To acquire and implement a computed tomography (CT) scanner.

10.1         To gain Ministry approval
