It has been the single-biggest campaign in the history of the United Way of Perth-Huron.
On Wednesday, Feb. 20, United Way co-chairs Elizabeth Cooper and Nick Sawicki announced the 2012 fundraising drive produced a total of $1,073,470 – up more than $20,000 from 2011 totals.
However, the amount still falls shy of the goal of $1,082,012, and the United Way is still accepting donations until March 31 to reach their target. Donations can be made online via perthhuron.unitedway.ca, by phone at 1-877-818-8867 or at the United Way office at 32 Erie Street, Stratford.
More than 170 people came out to the United Way's annual awards dinner where the announcement was made. Executive Director Ryan Erb said the strong community support is typical of the two counties.
“This has been a year when so many in our community have faced uncertainty, yet they found it in their hearts to support their neighbours,” Erb said. “This is truly what makes Perth-Huron such a wonderful place to live.”
